Wechat

WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China. The users of the app can send texts and voice messages, share photos and locations and even communicate through video with each other. The service is now available on web, iPhone, Android and other media platforms. And, we have to mention this, Wechat seems to become the number 1 social media platform for people in the China, and many Chinese overseas.

In its most recent commercial campaign, the world famous soccer super star Lionel Messi is comforting his crying baby by using the app. “Grandma” asked Messi for help in a voice message from a distance. Messi then opened Wechat’s video function and showed off his unparalleled football skills to entertain the baby in his room. The baby was amused by dad’s flawless performance and finally melted into smile.

The TVC is quite sweet and warm but most importantly, the message is sending: with WeChat, you can connect to others wherever you are.  “He’s well-known in a lot of markets globally. He is a WeChat user and he’s used the product for a while,” said Katie Lee, the spokeswoman of the company. “He’s always away, playing football everywhere. The commercial highlights (how) he can be connected with (the) family and friends no matter where he is.”

You may now get a sense of what WeChat is. Let’s take further steps to look through some creative ways of using WeChat:

1. You can ease and comfort your babies. (You already knew!!)
2. You can send your location to let your friends know where you are. (Save me ~~ I’m lost!)
3. You can invite your teammates to join you in a group chat to discuss projects. (Only work, no gossip please~)
4. You can make new friends by simply click “Look Around”. (Hey I’m not interested in speed-dating…)
5. You can share everything you want by posting it in “Moment”. (Complains are extremely welcomed!)
